Meet the Future of AI Series
By the Human-AI Cluster
The Future of AI event series brings together policymakers, researchers, journalists, and innovators to explore how emerging artificial intelligence technologies are reshaping society, and how Europe can ensure these technologies strengthen, rather than undermine, democratic values.
Since 2023, the series has served as a platform for collaborative dialogue and practical demonstrations of cutting-edge tools developed by Horizon Europe and H2020 projects focused on countering disinformation and strengthening Europe’s information ecosystem.
Each edition has addressed the evolving challenges posed by AI and online manipulation, from advanced disinformation tactics to generative AI and its implications for democratic processes.

Future of AI 2024 – Generative AI and Democracy
Date: 19 June 2024 | 14:30 – 18:00 CET
Location: Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT), Brussels
Building upon the success of the inaugural conference, the 2024 edition examined the profound impact of generative AI on democratic systems. As GenAI technologies become increasingly capable of producing persuasive synthetic content, understanding their implications for public communication, electoral processes, and civil discourse has become essential.
Co-organised by vera.ai, AI4TRUST, TITAN, AI-CODE, and the H2020 project AI4Media, the event brought together experts developing advanced AI techniques to counter online disinformation — with a particular focus on safeguarding the public sphere from emerging threats enabled by GenAI.
Future of AI 2023 – Countering Sophisticated and Advanced Disinformation
Date: 29 June 2023 | 09:00 – 17:30 CET
Location: VRT, Karabiniersplein, Reyers, Brussels
The 2023 conference marked the launch of the Future of AI series. Hosted by Belgium’s public broadcaster VRT in hybrid format, the event focused on the rise of sophisticated, AI-enabled disinformation and the challenges it poses to public trust and democratic stability.
Organised by TITAN, AI4Media, AI4Trust, and vera.ai in cooperation with the European Commission, the event explored the opportunities and risks presented by generative AI and showcased early versions of advanced tools for detecting and mitigating disinformation.
Discussions brought together leading voices from policy, journalism, and research to assess how Europe can strengthen resilience against rapidly evolving information threats.
